Cruise Control Problem

I am having a problem with my cruise control in my 2003 CLK 270 CDI. It does not seem to work between the speeds 67-76 mph. It engages for a second and then deactivates itself. However the cruise control work at all other speeds. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening and how I would be able to fix it?

Thanks!

Unhappy To Cruise or not to Cruise.... that is the question!!!

Actually, the most probable cause is a bad cruise control amplifier... if you can borrow a good one to try out and see if that fixes your problem.

also for what's it worth ... from another forum... here's a reason why the CC amp goes bad:

...."It sounds like your cruise amplifier is going belly up -- common enough. The main reason that cruise amps go bad is improper replacement of brake light bulbs. If American bulbs are used to replace the original German bulbs, an improper current is sent to the amp when you hit your brakes. This eventually burns out the unit." ....

Can anyone comment on the truth of the above statement???
