Unhappy repair to Xenon low beam $1800!

How much! Yup, $1800 plus labour. And I get to drive for 2 weeks with one eye. Oh goody.

Had intermittent fault ("low beam dead" message) since I had the car 4 yrs. Every time it was back for a service when it was under warranty they said they could find nothing wrong. It would go for a year and then fault would come back, then go away.

Now its come back with a vengeance and - oh wouldnt you guess - the car is now OUT of warranty. They want $1800 to fly in the whole lamp assembly from Germany, said to consist of the 'lamp brain' plus the 'lamp igniter'. Cost me 100 bucks today to receive that news.

I rather suspect it is some minor wiring fault, but they said it would cost too much to find that out ... I am NOT impressed with this I can tell you.

Doe anyone think its worth whining to Mercedes direct? I have the old service invoices that mention the problem?

The good news: the lamp brain and igniter arrived from Germany to Vancouver n ONE DAY! Well done! They must have put it right on the next Lufthansa flight.

The Bad News: it cost $1600. (Ok, slightly less than threatened)

It still rankles as the car has had this fault since way back before it was out of warranty. In fact I mentioned at every service, but when the service guy checked on line (woo!) , there was nothing written on the service record about it. (This is like Douglas Adam's proof that evidence for time travel is all about us - whenever you claim on the your insurance, whatever peril has just befallen you is specifically excluded in the small print).

Ho Hum I can try whining to Mercedes Canada, but without proof that its an old fault come back I doubt Ill get anywhere.
