270 CDI Engine

Hi I'm new to the CLK range and have just brought a '03 270CDI. Mounted on the top of the engine there is a heat exchanger/cooler of some description, can anyone tell me what goes through it and through the flexible pipes to the 2 metal pipes which run down the bulkhead? Also its now showing that the A service has been exceeded, how do i reset that?
