Phone removal

I have a 2003 CLK500 witht he phone in the center armrest. As I have no intention of ever using can I remove this with out any problems?
Also under the phone compartment is a larger one with a big black box taking up all the space. Anyone know what this is?

Yes you can remove the phone kit..the cradle in the arm rest and the pse in the trunk

If the 'box' has a kind of rubbery surface, and a rounded forward end then its probably the blower for the rear passengers
