Usually, it's old age or high mileage that causes rear bearings to fail... generaly somewhere past 10 years or 200kmi. If for any reason the seals are compromised, that will cause premature failure, and areas with high salt use in winter can also cause problems.
I got these with a pile of misc parts, and they don't fit any of my cars (I have all 124's) so I'm just trying to find them a new home. If I had a 170/203/209 chassis I'd stick them on the shelf for future use...
