By coincidence i dropped by my nearest MB dealership today, and put this question to a Master Tech at the service desk.
After a moments thought, he said that every petrol engined Mercedes Benz built since about 1980 had an Interference engine.
But the up-side is, instead of a timing belt just snapping as on some 'lesser cars', with the double chain on its timing system, an MB will give adequate warning (by the noise particularly at start-up) of a very worn timing chain. That's good to know.

That's kinda funny...in the 1980s, MB put out a lot of single chain engines....which lead to a lot of engine failures.

Not all single row timing chains were a problem, e.g. 103 motor chains are bulletproof. And MB did acknowledge the problem on the 380s and came out with the double row fix. And the 380 problems generally did give a warning - which many owners ignored to their peril.
