question on changing break pads ...

My wear indicator just came on (28k) and i just got a set or poterfileds for the front.
Im trying to avoid going to the dealer $$ and I called a shop that i think does good work based on tirerack's recommendation told me they will need to machine the rotors?? Is this right for a car with 28k ..and first break pad change? Also is $255 a lot for this? seems so any recommendations ? I'm in dallas BTW ...

When I changed my pads on my SLK...

The dealer did it for me, even when I had aftermarket pads (Axxiss) for $85.00. That included drilling the pads so the new sensors can be used.

Well, I think I answered my own question...

I called the dealership (after Arnee's post) and they will do it for about 100 bucks .... no waranty on squealing etc of course .... the dealer was actually cheaper .... that's a first !!!
