Re: intakes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don't think K&N makes an intake, are you talking about an air filter? If so, I don't believe there is much of a hp gain.

dan

CLK's have pretty crappy intakes :)

K&Ns will help. What would really help is a cold-air intake that does not pass over the engine (where it is hot). Evosport should have one ready in a couple months.

Re: CLK's have pretty crappy intakes :)

By the way, with a cold air intake you can expect apprx 8-15HP to the wheels.

what I observed on the dyno with intakes

when I was testing the K&Ns on my 55 the intake runners helped hp/torque being in place to pull air from in from of the car.

you are correct that the butterfly is behind the airbox near the firewall and that the filter box 'bakes' on top of the block

you also have to see how resonance and air velocity impacts hp/torque as well - the cold air intake on my Nissan works VERY well

http://www.se-r.net/engine/cool_air_intake.html

when we took the runners off the airbox on the 55 to see if they were an obstruction - we lost hp. when we took the runners out and placed them on top of the radiator cross brace (straight shot into the airbox) slight loss (heat soaked by now)

I would think a cold air intake would provide extra hp - they almost always do if you can keep the resonance / velocity right. colder air = more dense air = more hp. It just works.

We know the airbox is a restriction (K&Ns prove that) - a cold air intake makes sense to try sense there is not a MAF / OBDII concerns until further up the intake stream.

liked to see what comes out :)

Shell...is right !!! Most people DON"T know about this, just because you can get more air....
into the engine does not mean it good. The resonance and velocity had to be right or it will create air turbulance and will loss power. It is very importance to keep the air flow SMOOTH into the engine. That's why most high performance engine have the engine head ported and polish.

Question

ok i just installed to K@N filters in my 430. I have to cut the tabs off.

Anyway in the picture of the black car you intakes look different...... I mean i have those but the flow into the big cover..... Have you changed yours?

Also why not just eliminate the air filters all together in the 'BOX' then buy two rubber clamps. Attach those clamps to some sort of plastic intake runner and run them down the sides through the to holes next to the frame. Then install two more rubber clamps and two K&N cone filters. Seem to me this would let it suck the air from the front air damn instead of from behind the grill. Might not make any real hp advantages but it would seem the air would be colder when it started in...... Besides all the camaro/mustang/ civc/ and integra people are doing this....

When i figure out how to post a picture of what im talking I will.

I think it just a picture of one way they test them to see any hp gain.

Re: Question

In testing, we've found that one cold-air intake is sufficient, and 2 actually are of no help (if not hurting it). Think about what happens to airflow when 2 pipes converge into 1.

It might not gain anything but it won't hurt either. If it hurt, why do they have two.COME-ON BEN !!
