Have any of you guys installed a detector that's hard-wired ot the car? I've seen a CLK55 here with a V1 on the lower part of the widnshield by the dash...

It would be nice for some info on how and where to connect the wires...

Take both lenses off interior lights. There will be two metal clips on the rear of the light assemble. Use a small screwdriver and push in each as you pull down. This will get you in the area you will need to work in. Let the light assemble hang down, the wire you will need is gray with a red stripe. This wire with several others goes to a little black box on the right of the light assemble. I checked several wires in this area and this wire (gray with red stripe) is
hot when you turn the ignition on and start your car and remains hot until you turn your engine off. One thing when you turn your engine off and take your key out the detector will come back on for a short time then goes off. You will be able to hear a relay that will click under the right side of your dash that is when the detector will go off. I have a passport 8500 installed in my 2002 clk55 for about four and a half months with no problems. I just get out of the car and
don't think about it. Run your wire out past the microphone and mount the detector either under the mirror or to the left of drivers side mirror. As for the ground, hook to the screw on the motor that operates the sun/moon roof. There is enough room in the area you are working to put the fuse and wire (came with detector) .

Please contact if further assistance is needed or
if you have questions.

downunder1984@aol.com
I also have an escort 8500.

MB sub tech installed it next to the passenger side rear view mirror, and hard-wired it to the cigarette lighter wires.

He tried to wire it to the garage-door opener wires above the rear-view mirror, which I suggested. This was successfully done on my previous car by an aftermaket shop on my SL500.

The MB sub tch was not familiar that that type of installation and got the wires mixed up.

http://www.escortradar.com/8500.htm
Arnee let me know how your radar install went. You might have to order a straight hard wire kit from Escort about ten dollars. It makes the installation a lot neater. If I can help let me know.
