Hello all
Well after reading both the forums for the E55 and the CLK55 both cars are really impressive and excellent in every aspect. I've been doing a lot of research on both the E55 and CLK55 and i just can't decide between the 2?? Any suggestions???
thanks!
The only real difference is if you prefer 2 doors or 4 doors. Both cars are just as fast.
I chose the 4 door as I have a wife, kid and dog to haul around. If I was single, I would have probably chosen the CLK55.
You'll be happy anyway you choose.
Maybe the choice will come down to which one has the shortest wait list.

The CLK is more a personal car. You can get people into the back seats, but it is a chore. In contrast, I hate trying to see thru the side pillar when I want to do a lane change, and I wanted something smaller and sportier after 5 years in an E420.
I am happy with everything in my CLK55 except the stereo (I am 48 and do not want to blow out windows etc.) it is a sorry reflection on MBZ. My E420, now the wife's, has a much better sound system.
Drove the E420 today so I could get windshield chips repaired. It is quite, refined, reasonably powerful, but the stereo is an order of magnitude better. I am going to chew my dealer a new asshole over it, considering what the K2a package costs in the CLK55.
The E-series has the big "I am important" look to it and the CLK, as my wife puts it, has a "f**k me look" to it. She is hung up on how its nose is so low and its tail is up in the air.
She has named the CLK55 "Kristine," as a play on the old movie (Stephen King I think). But she is warming up to it, particularly every time it humbles another M3.
The E55 is much more likely to have better initial quality and long-term reliability. The CLK seems to have many more quality control issues.
The CLK55 should have better long-term resale as is typical of coupes vs. sedans.
Other than that, the major differences are interior room (especially in the rear), and 4-doors vs. 2-doors (rear seat accessibility).
FYI, both the E55 and CLK55 will be replaced in the next ~2 years. Expect the replacements to have supercharged V8s with significantly more horsepower than the current models.
This post is totally incorrect except for the 2 vs 4 door issue. Right now the information on the new clk says it is only going to be a V6. Also, quality control and problems with the CLK are the same as the E. Read prior posts about the upcoming new body.
Thanks. I checked it out and called them as the website doesn't really have much. They are uploading the new catalog today (3/22) which includes the new AMG stuff and it is supposed to be accessible in the next few days.
