99 clk 430 wheel size upgrade

went from stock 17 inchers to amg 19s off a cls. bas abs check engine lights. car seems possesed. please help

I reckon you should get the codes checked before you go pinning it on the upgraded wheels.

It sounds like a bad brake light switch which is easily rectifiable (15 min job and only requires a screwdriver and a new brake light switch).

Tires too big?
You should have no larger than 275/30/19's in the rear. Anything larger profile
(for example: 275/35/19's would trigger bas abs check engine lights)

I did the same swap out (running on exact same tire size currently). I also had error codes curiously thereafter, but I think it was more coincidence. I never had/have heard of what hyprr1 is talking about - mine was rectified through a brake light switch and CPS replacement. For the record, my bas/abs check engine was intermittent and seemingly coming on more frequently (every 4-5 times I would rive the car) - figured it was about time to replace these parts anyways, and haven't seen that light/warning since (year+ ago).

You mean to tell me that you guys both are running 35 profile in the rear?
You cant go bigger than 30 series on 19" wheels in the rear. I know it sounds
nuts but I had the same problem with my C36 AMG. I guess the computer reads
errors because rotation is not consistent.
265/30/19's in the rear & 235/35/19's up front works perfect.
Sorry, but that's my opinion. Just trying to help out.


I bet if you put your stock 17's back on temporarily, you'll see that everything would be fine?

Yep, that's what I'm running. I will concede though that it will throw your odometer slightly off over time (per an MB tech who has seen others do the same previously). However, hyprr1 has a good point - throw the 17's back on, and if the problem goes away, there's your issue (and I got lucky!).

If you are running this setup the rear sidewalls are quit a bit larger than the front. This is more than 2 inches difference in circumference. This can also throw codes.

now if you are running a 30 in the back and a 35 up front then you are only a tenth off.
