Lamp Malfunction - but all are working I think

I just replaced my driver side "city light" bulb. Also just replaced brake light switch. But I am getting a lamp out reading when I turn on my lights. The headlights are on, the city lights (small from headlights) are on, all tail lights and brake lights are working, and the mirror turn direction lights are working. Any idea why I am still getting a lamp out warning when I turn on my lights?

2002 CLK 430.

Also, adjusting headlights .. how do I do it and how (where) do I aim them?

I believe the 208 has two bulbs for the license plate and probably one of those is burned out.

Typically there is no reason to have to adjust your headlights; why are you concerned about them?

As Greg said, there are 2 license plate bulbs and alot of us have had elusive problems with them. Be warned- I currently get the fault about once every 2 weeks because my right license plate bulb is intermittent. I've only physically seen it not work one time. So, I would replace both of them if I were you. That is if you cant find anything.

The headlights appear to aim up a bit .. thats why I ask.

I am thinking a code may be hanging around / not cleared .. that is giving me the lamp error. Is that possible?

Here's my reoccurring problem and fix

I had the same problem in my 430. Then one day I noticed my wife drive down the street and I noticed that the rear lights actually have 2 bulbs beside each other. And in my case only one was lit up on the right side.

This being my second MB convertible, I did the normal thing and gave the carpet in front of the rear deck in the trunk a slight bump with my fist and sure enjoy the light second rear parking/driving light came on and my Lamp indicator light went out after I turned the car off and on.

As everyone on this board knows, MB lights are finicky and sometimes just a bump in the right spot corrects the problem. Hope this helps?

All factory. I think the trunk light may be the ticket.

I had the same issue with my '00 CLK 320 Cabrio. Took the car to the dealer. $60 and no more warnings. My advisor told me that MB has built-in "preventive maintenance" system. When some bulbs are about to fail (but not failed yet) the computer will sense it and give this warning.
