Headrest/Rollbar stuck

My roll bar is stuck in the up position. I've tried the reset, holding the up button for 20 seconds, it just makes noise but will not go down. Any suggestions?

In you hand book it describes what to do should this happen. The same thing happened to us last week when we hit a speed bump and the tires left the ground. the roll bar poped up and wouldn't release. In your tool kit theres a rod that must be placed down along side the rear passengers headrest and pushed down the headrest at the same time. This will free up the roll bar and release it. This might not be exact but it's along those lines. Check your hand book. I hope it helps

I don't see anything in the manual about this. There is only a tool to manually open/close the top. Can you elaborate on this? Was this in a 209 or 208?

I took the back of the seat/trunk apart and still can't get to the roll bar mechanism, it's covered by metal. I figured out that I can push the down button and sit on the roll bars to get them to go down. However they still re-deploy. Does anyone know how this mechanism works?

with the soft top down. Take the allen hex head wrench out of the trunk by the spare tire. The wrench is about a 3/16 allen about 8 inches long
insert the wrench along the seam facing down along side the rear head rest, left side you'll see a orientation groove near the seam left side.
Align wrench with seam insert wrench down with some pressure
press wrench down firmly and hold
press head rest down and hold
pull wrench out and take weight off headrest
Repeat for other side.

My book ends on page 333, I noticed you have a 2005 is this for a w209 or w208?

This happened to me twice. There was a combination of 2 buttons that i pressed and held until it reset. I think it was the rear headrest button plus the convertible top button. Try the different combos and see what works

Every time it happens to me i just hold the headrest button to go up for a bit then hear it click and push down. Nothing else needs to be done.. If its stubborn I repeat it a few times , always works. good luck. Top was always up .

Hey mine is stuck too in the open position.....all the rear seats are removed but still having problems resetting....it looks like this is a one unit...both head rests are attached together.....there should be a release button on one side I think....gonna work on it tonite....cheers

Here is what the dealer told me, if you have the up/down button for the headrests then it's fully automated. There is no other release, hold up button for 8+ seconds to reset.

I have this setup and my headrests were stuck in the up position. I took the seat and trunk apart and found nothing to reset. The problem was a bad valve, it's all hydraulic. The cost for parts and labor was $1000. I hope your issue is not as bad but the reality is that you will probably end up paying for at least a diagnostic.
