Benzin on a Budget

Whats up guys? Today I was thinking it would be real cool if we could post some of our less expensive enhancements that we have made to our cars. Now, sure there are a lot of tacky modifications that we could make to CLKs, but I'm looking for the ones that really made a difference to the look, the ride, or just the overall feel to yours without breaking the bank. I was hoping we could stay around $100.

I'll go first:

Reading the detailing section here-Free!
White H6w city light bulbs-$25
8000k D2r Headlight Bulbs-$35
Total -$110

My car looks 1000x better than the majority of CLKs I pass daily with foggy headlights, swirl marks, and dull finishes. I spent about $50 on a macguiar's 3 step kit, (which is really easy to use for a novice) some new towels, buckets, windex etc...I also spent $25 to change my city lights from the old yellow color from aceparts.com and I found some 8000k D2r bulbs on ebay for my headlights. I now have a really crisp white look in all four lights. The new look is priceless.

The detailing job is a good thing, but why not just keep your car stock?

Alot of items that were nice stock/factory items 11 years ago are outdated today. For example, the stock Bose cassette deck. I appreciate original Mercedes parts though, I have also purchased an OE AMG bumper/side skirt body package. His car has AMG style rims also, he really hasn't strayed too far from the original look of the car. Headlights today are much better than they were 11 years ago. Aftermarket items are fun, makes the car stand out, for those who want to. CLK430 Cabriolets are beautiful right out of the box, they are timeless classics IMO, on that car I would only change the foggy headlights to projectors and add wheels if it didn't have 18 inch AMGs.

To answer your question about low cost mods, I'd say blue LEDs on the interior have given me the most bang per buck. Attention wise its up there with new wheels, and the dome can be done for $10-15 dollars. Hitting that remote at night in a dark area is beautiful. For those who prefer a stock look, white LEDs add a bright crisp look to the interior compared to the 11 year old yellowish OE bulbs.

Decided I was getting this out of the way this weekend earlier today! Thanks for the confirmation!

I have the real things for right now. Everything on my list was on the car when I bought it 3 years ago. Today I added a wood dash kit. But when I get the 20s they'll definitely be fake and bling blingin !

Yes, did some body page me? Here I am. What's this about me being on a budget?

lower your car with thinner spring pads for about $30 or free if you remove them without replacing with any pads.

Flat hood emblem for $35

Are the spring pads on the bottom of where the springs rest on the control arms? In both front and rear? This is something I'd be interested in doing.

No, the pads sit on top of the springs, but they are on all 4 corners. front and rear are different part numbers. lots of info about this around the forum.
