A code reader will tell you.

I'm guessing it's an O2 sensor.

Code reader would work if the light would come back on. But it won't. I have less than 20K on the car.

My $65 scanner was able to read past malfunctions when the CEL has already went off.

Not only does the ECU store codes after the CEL has turned off, but some codes can only be cleared by SDS - and thats even after the offending part has been replaced and the battery been disconnected. A code reader will do the job.

Correct. Get a code reader even if the light has turned off - you'll still be able to get a code from the reader.
