My 01 CLK55's engine has died twice on me at a stop light recently. I know that the CPS is the usual suspect for this issue, but my symptoms are not exactly the same as what I have read here on the forum.
The second time the engine died, it was within five minutes of starting up, so the engine was not hot. Also, both times the engine started right back up with no cool down period necessary and continued running all day with no problems. No CEL on start up.
Still sound like a CPS? When the CPS fails, do the symptoms occur consistently or could they appear intermittently like mine? Anything else it could be?
It's likely to be the CPS. The second time it shut-off within five minutes which is enough time for the engine to heat up and cause the CPS to malfunction, especially as the CPS is nearing it's end. It likely also started up right away because it wasn't as hot. Mine did the same until it became worst and took longer to restart. My Benz did it about four or five times until I read these symptoms on the forum and figured out it was the CPS. You may want to wait to see if it continues... but then again maybe not.

Don't wait to fix it...It def sounds like the CPS. My car died while at a traffic light...the engine was hot...but it started back up. That was a sign that it was going bad. I waited to fix it. The same thing happened a few days later...but it started back up (engine was hot) and I went on about my biz. Next week...after work on a friday, during rush hour, and in the rain, it died...and did not start back up. Waited for about an hour for engine to cool and still nada. [Enter Tow Truck] So then I had to have it towed because it would not start back up. The next day it did start (with the CEL on) and I drove it to the shop ( < 1 mi.) and sure enough...CPS failure. Moral of the story is...if you delay...you will pay...

I agree with the above responses but wonder about the symptoms that you got while engine was cold. CPS seems to have trouble when hot. I would ask, as it was dying, did you feel that you could have caught the stall by fluttering the gas? If you could, it is more likely the MAF. If you have been getting any hesitation while accelerating from a stop, it's more likely MAF. Either way, they are easy fixes.

I know that the CLK 55 is a big engine...and I just thought that at around 5 min...It may not be hot...but it could be warm enought to die with a bad CPS. It happened to me in that fashion...but if you think it could be the MAF...I certainly would not rule that out.
