I sent my clk 320 (208)to the dealer because when I changed the shifter, I felt it like loose shifter symptoms. Other than that, my car drives great.
After check, the dealer told me it was shifter bushings worn out and quote $200 including parts and labor. But after 30 mins when my car was done and I was trying to pay the bill, the number was $367. I asked them about the change of the price, I was told the 200 was an estimate. They needed to open the trans. And they charged 2.5 hours labor for replacing the bushing...
On my receipt, the labor is $337.50, and parts is $6.80.
I think it is rediculous that they charge that much for replacing the bushings.
I was also told the SDS won't communicate with ETC ck for communication fault codes in other systems. Does anyone have any ideas about that?
I will appreciate if you have any opinions, suggestions or recommendation for workshops in MA.
Thats crazy. you should've spoke to the shop manager. Correct me if I'm wrong but when something changes like you need another part or something and or it might cost more than what we originally agreed to aren't they supposed to let you know before they continue.

This is true, I would not take that shit from them.
When I had my 3.2 TL-S I took it into the dealership a few times, when the warranty ran out I asked to make sure that they'd let me know if the prices they gave me were going to change, or they were going to do 'extra' work. OK, granted, this is an Acura I'm talking about, but same principle applies.
They told me that they 'have' to tell me before doing anything additional that would cost more money. Never had a problem with them.
Yea man i think they are right, i wouldnt take my car there again.... i am from MA and i have a 2000 430 and i only take it to my trusted mechanic up in topsfield, ma. The name of their shop is called 'Star Service ", specializing in MERCS, they've been servicing my family's cars for almost twenty years.. they pay great attention to detail, and won't try to rape you with B.s. charges.
They're charging 135.00 an hour? That's ridiculous! Besides that should have been completed in 1.5 hrs max. My wife had a C230 and we had that part changed at a non-Dealer Mercedes/Porschia shop in Tampa Bay: Labor 1.5 hrs @ $75.00 per hr, part $4.25, Total $120.00. I would go back and ask for a refund of the quoted difference. Besides you never authorized them to do the work for an amount above the qouted $200.00. If they are uncooperative and you paid by AMEX place a dispute and you will probably win. Also, advise the service manager that you will file a complain to Mercedes Benz USA if they don't refund you the quoted difference. This should get their attention.

I would check to see what the dealer's policy is on estimates. The MB dealer in Maryland I go to must get prior customer approval for any work needed that is above 10% of the quoted price...
Chem1441 is correct.... Mercedes Benz of Tampa has always contacted me when the cost of repair exceeded the estimate (and a signed estimate I will add). That brings another question, "Was the estimate of $200.00 signed prior to the techs checking out the vehicle?". If yes, this will only enforce your claim, although a verbal agreement is still valid in my opinion. Generally an estimate is drawn up in writing, which you sign, authorizing the shop to repair as long as repair does not exceed the estimate, in this case $200.00. Go get them!!!!
i just changed this part my self a couple days ago all they do is go under the car take a clip off the shifter bar pop a gromet looking thing in and reclip the bar took me 15 minutes but the car was already up on jackstands as i was changing my spring pads. basically its a rubber bushing that goes into the bottom of the shifter that the shifting rod slips into this piece fails a lot due to hard conditions from being wet dry and heat
ps yes you was reammed with no lube

yeah, you gotta contact MBusa about this one. report the dealer and file a claim with them and they should help you settle it. completely uncalled for.
I really appreciate all your inputs, thoughts and suggestions!
I have called two other MB dealers to check the price of replacing the bushing and emailed the dealer to ask for a refund last week. They apologized and said they should charge me 1 hour checking + 0.3 hour repairing only.
Today I received the check(175)!!!
