Just got my new black projectors! Then car stalls and dies. I'm so happy.
So yea, here's the deal. Since I've had the car, every now and then I'll start the car and the engine will rev up higher than normal when starting. Never caused any problems, and the car always drove fine.
Well, today, something odd happened, now I did a search and I found a thread started by a member where he stated that the engine will shut down when it's at 90 degrees. That was the engine temp in my case today, and it was pretty hot outside. I had just received a call that my lights were in right after I shut off the car in my driveway, and then I started it back up and that's when it happened. Just poof! And all the error lights came on.
I'm guessing this is just because of the engine temperature, but I would rather ask here and make sure instead of having the car die on me in the middle of nowhere.
I popped the hood, let it sit for a minute then started it back up, everything looked mechanically sound. Shut it off, dropped the hood, and it started back up just fine.
Would those 'high rev' starts I mentioned earlier have anything to do with this or is that another problem altogether?
Any insight would be much appreciated.
OH YEA, and I got my new black projectors, they'll be going on real soon, hopefully not to a 2 ton paper weight.
In the recent past I'd let the car warm up until I read a thread on here that stated otherwise, straight out of the manual.
Anyway, when I used to let the car sit and warm up, I'd feel the car shake, nothing drastic, but there was definitely an 'ambient' shaking. It's strange because just a year ago I had the car tuned up, all the filters were replaced, spark plugs, etc..., basically everything but the spark plug wires.
I don't know if the MAF may have anything to do with it, but I was checking some other threads out that say the MAF may be a culprit.
P.S. yea man all of your cars look so nice with the new projectors, props on that. I can't wait to see them on mine since most of the car is blacked out.
Hey E, thanks for the links, they're both informative, and the 2nd one is tough to screw up, good for knuckleheads like me. I am going to take it to my mechanic today,
I was going to install the lights, but considering it's like the amazon outside I'd rather just pay him labor and be done with it. Plus he's a pro, I'm a joe. I will have him look at it and see what he thinks, maybe he can reset the ECU for me or clear the faults
been staring at your pics and Hersh's pics all day yesterday with just the 4 halos on
i also have been experiencing some rough idle problems, my car would shut off when i ran the A/C and was @ a stopped @ a red light (or any similar situations you can think of), and have been experiencing little to no thrust when i punched my gas. Engine would rev up to 3-4000 RPM but my car wouldn't be moving that fast, it would still feel like i was going 25mph or something crazy, (also this had an effect on my love for burn-outs, couldn't do 'em for 2 months)
The rough idle problem was a mizture of a dirty MAF (which i cleaned myself) and also a leak in transmission fluid, (which my mechanic told me was a reason that i had little to no acceleration)
The stalling out problem was due to a crank shaft position sensor which my mechanic fixed for under $100.
And the major reason for the acceleration loss was that ( knowledge from trust family mechanic, who works on my family's 6 mercs) over time, (my car is 9yrs old this year) the cap / cover thats regulates the tramission fluid has erroded, and caused a minor leak, that if it goes untreated will eventually drain our very expensive hydrolic transmission.. that was why i had little to no acceleration in low gears (using tiptronic or automatic) and couldn't zoom past slow drivers on the highway..... he replaced the cover and refilled the trans. fluid for about $40... and that was 2 weeks ago, since then... everything is A-Ok just like last summer when i bought her.
i dunno, this might help, this might not.. but just wanted to drop my 2 cents
