I remember about a year ago there was a thread in this exact forum about a certain bumper that noone could identify. Someone knew what it was and gave a link but I cant for the life of me remember what it was... or even find the thread. The impact strip on my front bumper came loose on the highway yesterday and went flying off my car... thus I am now in the market for a new bumper... soon haha
I remember that the picture showed a Red CLK (W208) and it was parked in a grass field of some sorts and the bumper had dual Fog lights.
It was a European company and I remember their website had everything in Pounds instead of dollars...
Does anyone remember what that bumper was??? A thousand thanks to anyone that can help.
Its ridiculous how many different people online are selling the same thing for different prices... and I didn't even ask the dealership how much the stock bumper would cost since just the trim was going to cost $243.80 before paint.
*Update* HAHA!! These jokers at VollgasMotorwerks want over 2 Grand JUST for the front Lorinser bumper... wtf
Gotta say, It can leave someone feeling pretty hopeless. But your right, Im sure someone will chime in... until then my search continues.
lol Thanks!
This is really what Im looking for... Turns out after the conversion the CKM (Red one) is the same price as the Lorinser... and I don't think I'm ready to spend that much yet.
K, I found this one but I cant quite tell if it is the same thing or not.
It is the Expression Motorsport DTM Body Kit and one person I talked to is selling it for $800... Theres GOT to be a cheaper way to get these things... Its just a bumper...
There's a online store in Europe that has it available and ready to ship. but it runs around $800+ unpainted.
There's another company in the San Fernando Valley (SoCaL). that CAN customize a bumper for you. I really don't know how much they charge. It's funny cause since last week i was planning to drop by to that shop sometime this week.
Dude I know what you mean, I don't get the massive price of certain cosmetic parts, a full on body kit for 2 grand, okay I can understand that, takes money to make these things and all that. For a bumper, shit man, that's nuts.
I walked into a shop just the other day asking about 3rd party bumpers for my car, they didn't even give me a price they just said we have to rape you and take your wallet. Wasn't a hot girl at the counter either, so I promptly left and never told anyone of that day...well, until now.
The factory AMG bumper is $885 + paint + labor. So ~$1450 delivered.
I'm about to replace mine so I talked to a few people (body shop owners, installers) about aftermarket bumpers. The consensus is that aftermarket bumpers are generally never as good as the factory ones, even the Brabus and Lorinser ones. The fit is about 90% at best, and you can run into all kinds of wavy lines and pits in the finish. A good body shop can make up for a lot of the gaps and funky surface blemishes, but it will never be as good as a factory bumper.
The guy that's going to do the work on my car does nothing but Euro-sports cars... mostly Benz, BMW and Porsche. You should have seen the GT3 at his shop that was wrecked on 3 corners at Road Atlanta... big project - car looked new when he was done with it. He was recommended by 2 Benz dealers, and the guys at the Kinetic Speedshop. Anyway, he said if you want a perfect fit you have to get a factory bumper. He's done 80 or so 208 front bumpers so I'll go with his word.
Bottom line. You'll get what you pay for... so get something good (unless you don't care as much about fit and finish).
