You can get it from the Benz dealer for free. I had the same trouble, but in my case, and as the nearest dealer is 100 miles away I bought the code from one of the many websites you'll find if you search. Cost me about 10 bucks and was hassle free.

P.S. Don't give out your VIN so easy.

Vin Number

Yeah, my deal requires me to come down and pay a fee. I just find that completely unethical.

Whats wrong with giving out a VIN? It's posted on my windshield.

I recently bought a used Mercedes (2002), and the radio code wasn't with the owners manual. I called the local dealership, gave them the VIN, and they gave me the radio code over the phone, no charge. I haven't had an occasion to try it, but I expect it to work.

Call a different dealer if they want to pay for the radio code. Call one out of town if you have to.

I always thought that the code's purpose was to deter theft...No?
So that if it the unit is stolen...the radio would be useless without a code...thus creating the deterrent. Posting the code on top of the radio defeats that purpose.

Then my question is...why have a code at all if you are going to put it on top of the radio? That is...if the code is actually on top of the radio as described above.
