I have a 1999 clk 320 and unplugged the battery to install a brake lamp switch.
When it was plugged back in it asked for the code and i entered it but its

Is it the factory headunit? You can get the code from the dealer...might want to double check you have the correct one. Have you been able to use this code before? Be sure to hold the button down after the last number...

Yeah its the factory unit i called the dealership and got the same code i had before but still no luck.
What do you mean hold down the button after the last number? What button?
...you just need to hold down the right dial crazy man and it will work!!
Therefor enter the code and when all entered then push and hold in the right dial for 3 secs... Its all in the manual !

when i called the dealership for the code thinking that i got the wrong code from the previous
owner they gave me the exact some code and when i said it didnt work they said that
id have to bring it in and it could be a after market one and that they would have to take
the whole stereo out and all this crap.
could it be a wire is loose somewhere when i installed the brake lamp switch?
This is crazy! I was about to swap out the battery and now after reading all of this (even though I have what I think is the code), I may get one of those devises that plugs into the cigarette lighter to retain the power - although now that I think about it, doesn't MB cars only allow you to use the cig lighter if the ignition is in the "on" position and not shut off?
