Spacers or No Spacers - that is the question....

I ordered my H&R Springs and my wheels for my new CLK430. I've noticed some people use spacers and some don't. I'm curious if you would recommend me purchasing spacers or not for the rear. Below are the wheel and tire sizes for the front & rear:

19" x 8.5" Offset 35 (Front) & 19" x 9.5" Offset 35 (Rear)

235/35/19 (Front) & 265/30/19 (Rear)

I like the flush look, my plans are to put on #1 pads with the H&R's - any recommendations? Should you feel I need a set of spacers, would you mind posting a link on where to purchase them?

Thanks for all of your help!

Sincerely,

Lance

Hi mate.

I'm in the UK so I won't be able to help you out in regard to where to buy them. If you get spacers, just make sure they are Hubcentirc spacers.

Decent spacers are safe to use. Before I got mine, I was worried about increased forces being applied to the bearings, bolts etc.

But I can tell you that they are safe and do wonders for the cars stance.

You will also improve the handling slightly because spacers will increase the rear track - but these improvements in handling will be marginal.

People use spacers when they want a more aggressive look. It all depends on how you want your car to look.

I love the way CLKMAN's car looks, for example. However, I had to compromise between looks and practicality. I really didn't want rubbing problems etc when carrying passengers etc. To solve that would mean really stiffening the suspension - which is all good but makes the ride really quite rough!

I have pushed my wheels out using spacers and have lowered my car to the point where I am satisfied with how it looks- but not to extremes like some bad-asses on the forum.

But who knows, later on, I may decide to take things to the next level.

Thanks Rashman! I want an aggresive look but I guess I'll wait to see what the new wheel/H&R setup looks like after putting everything on. I'm just not certain what size I should go with if I were to purchase them now - 10mm or 15mm.

Thanks for all of your help!

Lance

Mike-

Man... you're great at spending my money today! :-)

Thanks,

Lance

PS Where did you purchase your spacers. I'll probably just order them now, if I don't use 'em I'll just sell them on this site.

If you can't find wheels that would fit flush, spacers are fine. I personally don't like installing spacers.

Good to know - thank you. Do you have any pics of your car?
