I files a claim regarding these gauges with my extended warranty company and they decided to ship the cluster off to be fixed instead of replacing the entire cluster.
They are sending it to the following cluster repair shop:
It looks like instead of paying $1800 for replacing the console, they opted paying $275.00 for a repair. I was pissed at first until I read the fine print of my warranty. So I called the shop and they explained what they do. Apparantly they completely replace the ribbon cables along with the faulty display screens.
After thinking about it, I realized that I am completely fine with this. I will let you know guys know how it turns out.
I asked the tech about the mouse pad trick and he said that its ingenious and actually works - for a while at least. He told me that the connections will continue to separate and the problem will work it's way back over time.
Who knows, he has a vested interest to say these things.. :smoker:
