"Clunk" sound at slow turns....

I hear a "clunk" sound when I turn slowly. It is coming from the front of the car. Anyone know what it might be? Where should I start checking?

I have the same problem now and I had it before.

It's the inner or outer tie rod. If it's the inner you have to buy the whole drag link assembly...if it's the outer you can buy separate tie rods. Go to a alignment shop and have check for you because they both make the same noise when they have failed.

I fixed mine when it was the inner and I bought the entire drag link...was about $279 for the part and it was fixed but now the problem has returned....I think it's a design flaw in these cars.

If you get this fixed you should also get a new steering dampener while you're at it because it will make your steering feel much nicer.

Hi.

It might also be an idea to check your springs.
A while ago, I too had a "clunking" noise as I made slow turns.

I discovered that one of my rear springs had snapped about 2 inches from the bottom. The clunking noise was the sound of the spring moving around on top of the broken piece as the suspension travelled. My guy at MB said that this is fairly common, more so in extreme conditions/ weather.

I have since installed Eibachs.

This may not be the cause of your noise, but just a thought.

Interesting... i have this same sound

I had my drag link replaced a year ago, and curious how much a new steering damper would cost?

thanks

I had a similar sound when I turned left and it turned out to be the combination of a loose motor mount and sway bar. It was a kind of popping sound that would happen a 2-4 times while the wheel was turned. You may also have the shop check the ball joints and bushings on the suspension joints and sway bars just to be sure.
