shift lever has a weird clunk

I started to feel a weird clunk when I shift into drive. (2001 clk430 convertible). Everything works fine but this loose feel to the shift lever as if something snapped inside.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Shift rod bushing... I did'nt replace it myself but had a non-dealer shop do the work for $115.00 ($4.25 part).
