Post 2001 CLK 320 Help

I have searched and have yet to find anyting quite like my problem.

My convertible top is not retracting and my roll bars are making a poping noise, then somtimes it sounds like they are trying to move but can never get it going. I had to leave the roll bars in the up position for about 30 min, the went back out to the car and they finally went down with the switch on the control panel. Can now move the roll bars about 1/2 way up then stop.

Convertible top worked consecutively about 3-4 times today and is now just laughing at me, the switch will blink and nothing moves.

I am assuming that the issues are related (from what I have read) but dont know what direction to go with the roll bars, do I need to remove the seat to inspect? If so how? Has anyone else had this problem?

I would rather get to the bottom of this myself, but am not a "car guy."

Our convertible top electronics suck. I think your problem may have something to do with the roll bar motors not engaging the roll bars since they need to be fully retracted in order for the top down operation to work. Try to push the roll bar button up until you hear the roll bars connect, then push the buttom down to retract the roll bars and continue top operation.

If this doesn't work, search forums

Yeah I did that, thats when they got stuck up and the button would not work and the motors looped out.

The real problem is I am trying to sell the car, 30800 miles, $22700, (its a beauty) and then this started last Saturday, didnt drive the car again until yesterday.
