They become even more cloudy than they were before. AWESOME!
I wet one of the lights, did a spot test, sanded it down with 1000 grit sand paper, then dried it off, applied some Mother's plastic polish and polished it with a micro fiber. Looked good. Then, I decided to do the rest of the light and when it all dried it got cloudy as hell. WTF?
I went back after the fact and checked the sand paper there was white residue that came off the light. I'm hoping that wasn't some kind of coating that was on there. Before sanding I could feel the buildup on the headlights, well the lights are as smooth as a baby's ass, but they're cloudy as hell now. Oddly, when the lights are wet, they're crystal clear.
Any one know what the hell went wrong?
I researched this all over the net and on these forums, and that's the same thing that other people did with great results.
(I'm trying my best to not use this as an excuse to buy those new projectors with the black casings.)
I would assume whats happening is that you need to get insanely fine sand paper, it would make sense that 1000 would still leave it a bit rough, and then when the water hits the lights it fits perfectly in the grooves making them look clear.... keep goin

I'm a bit discouraged by the results at this point, they are so damn cloudy they look like they've been frosted white. Are you suggesting that if I get a finer sand paper and wetsand further that will help clear them up? At this point I can only guess that I managed to sand off clear coat or something.
I'm going to go try putting on a shit load of plastic polish and micro fiber it again.
I used 1000 first, then 1500,and then 2000 sandpaper - After that I used: Meguiar's PLASTX clear plastix cleaner & polish. (But I still find the Xenon lights on low-beam unsatisfactory)
wet sand them with 1500 and buff them out witha buffer and compound not by hand(ull b there all day, ribbin the sh*t outta them by hand). itll clear right up n look brand new.
Ahhh! Yes ,there is a clear coat that you sanded off! I used to restore a lot of headlights when I was a technician. You are in luck though! There was a certain kit I used, the first step was wet sanding. Then there are a few other chemicals to be applied. The last step was re-applying a clear coat. Heres a link. I tried atleast 4-5 different products similar, this was by far the best.
A used car dealer's mechanic saw mine and suggested the 1000 grit sanding and a coating of exterior grade clear laquer. Said they did all the time where he worked. Don't know about the durability of it though.
