Important Question about my NEWLY PURCHASED CLK 320 (W208), I need to know right away
Okay, here's the deal. I recently "bought" my CLK last week, and i barely made the last cash payment today. So in other words, today was the day when i was able to take the car home. and now i have a huge important issue/question.
The day i made a down payment to the private seller, i test drove the car. it's excellent. but today, on the way home on the freeway, WHEN I FLOORED IT, it didn't pick up quick.
AND...
when i was at a red light, as soon as it turned green, i pressed the gas pedal all the way, and it LITERALLY took 4 seconds til the car even moved forward.
WHY IS THAT?!?!?!?
oh, by the way, is there some type of "rev limitor" or "speed limitor" on the car?
My car is a 2001 CLK 320. PLEASE... PLEASE... LET ME KNOW. thanks.
Look to the left of the shifter, there is a button that has W and S on it. Make sure its on S and not on W. W=winter and S=summer. When you have it on W, the transmission is starting out on the second gear to prevent slippage.
If that didn't work, your MAF is probably dirty or need to be replace. Don't panic, its a common problem on our cars. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Okay, well, when i drive the car tomorrow, i'll switch it to "S" instead of "W", cause the previous owner kept it on "W".
other than that, what's "MAF"? sorry bro, i'll get use to these terms soon. but for now, i need everyone to guide me through simple things. LoL.
I agree with the idea of the MAF being a culprit. But try this too...
The quick way to reset the transmission and throttle body communications (which is where a lot of shifting weirdness lies) is to do the following step by step:
1. Get in and shut the door
2. Turn key to position 2 (right before the start position) DO NOT START THE CAR
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor... past the kick down point... see why I say DO NOT START THE CAR!??!
4. Hold the pedal there for 15 seconds
5. After 15 seconds while foot still planted, turn the key off but do not remove it
6. Release gas pedal... and get ready to be bored
7. Wait at least 2 minutes while not touching anything in the car, don't open the door even.
8. After the 2 minutes start the car and drive off normally... you should notice a difference in the shift pattern and smoothness.

Just a quick question, once i follow those steps, what's going to be different? Or in other words, what does that do? (detailed-wise). is it just for a smoother shift? or will it pick up a lot faster than normal?

Hi mate.
Yes, I too have heard of this process.
However, the instructions I was given were not as thorough as yours so I will give it another go and see how I get on. I was also told only to hold the gas down for 5 seconds.
Is there any risk of flooding the engine with fuel by holding down the throttle for 15 seconds?
Respect to the 55, by the way.
Thanks in advance.

Our cars are adaptive, meaning it learns your driving style. So your car is probably remembering how the other driver drove the car. The reset puts it back to factory which means it will need to re-learn how you drive. So it may be a little more punchy at the start.
