Thumbs up DIY Oil Change for a CLK

Attached is a PDF that will show you step by step how to perform your own oil change. The PDF file shows a CLK430, but the same procedure works for CLK320, CLK350 & CLK55 only the amount of oil maybe different. Check owners manual for Oil Capacity.

You searched all over? And you don't like mine? My feelings are hurt...

This is for a W210 by the drain method, but it's the same V6 you guys have.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...ml#post2252050

A couple of tips for the DIY-newbies.

First, forget about the "oil input" on the other DIY. While you have the filter assembly out, pour the fresh oil down that huge hole. Less chance to spill, no funnel needed (and no funnel to clean up afterwards). (Obviously, if you drained the oil, be sure to put the drain plug back in first!!)

Second, once you have torqued your filter assembly back in, clean the edge of the housing and then use an awl (or even a nail, it's just aluminum and composite) to gently score a line perpendicular to the joint between the housing and the top of the assembly so that it scores both components. In the future, you don't need a torque wrench, so long as you fit a new o-ring each time when those two lines match up you'll be more than close enough for government work. Naturally, this is optional, some folks would not choose to do this.

Third, have two rags handy when you pull the filter assembly out. One you use to catch the assembly so as not to drip stuff all over, then the other -- this one should be clean and lint-free -- you use to ball up softly so it covers the opening on the engine. Lots of things can fall into gaping holes, and in this case none of them would be good.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

How much oil do you guys like the engine to run? Since my light came on, I'm going to start to fill the car up to 3/4 to the MAX on the dipstick.

3 days ago I got the "defective oil sensor" warning...car drove normally
2 days ago the "Check Engine" light lit up...drove normally

Last night I checked the oil, cleaned the dipstick o-ring and added oil.

This afternoon, they both went off by themselves after a few drives. I read that the CEL can turn itself off after a few drives, but what do you guys think the problem was?

I have a Topsider and it doesn't work well at all. Maybe I'm impatient but it seems like it would take hours to drain. I start the engine and heat the oil a bit before I try to drain it. Any suggestions?

dlbehrns,

Do you have the oil filter removed or loose when you attempt to "suck" the oil out? If so that could be the problem. There is not a proper seal to create a vacuum. I usually loose the filter, let the oil drain back to the pan. Then I hand tighten the filter assembly
Let me know if that works for you next time?

I honestly don't remember if I had the filter off or not but that is a very good and logical possibility. There would be room for air to enter the crankcase around the suction hose but not much. Hope I remember next time I change the oil. Cheers!
