I'm new to MB and just bought a 2002 CLK320 Cabriolet. The dash says "1 Malfunction" - I want to know what this means? I've read some posts and still can't figure it out. I don't have the SOS service (teleaid?) hooked up and I don't have the phone hooked up - could that be it??? It just says "SOS not active" and "NO PHONE" on the dash - I don't see anything else showing up. Should I be concerned about this? It passed the emissions test so I think it's not something with that. HELP!

check all of your bulbs.. sometimes if a bulb is out that you dont notice it will say 1 Malfuction (unless its a headlight or a foglight). Check the ones on the bottom of the door as well as the license plate. Just a thought.

You probably need to have the error codes read to know for sure what the problem is. I heard that AutoZone will hook the car up (free) to pull those codes.
Don't feel bad. I don't have ANY malfunctions and I failed emissions (Mass air meter problem)!
same thing on my 2002 CLK430. Dealer said it is because I don't have my teleaid hooked up. hasn't caused any problems, just annoying to see when i shuttle through my menu of options.
No biggie,
Jen
Thanks, I may take to autozone and have them check. I had heard that same thing about the teleaid - annoying to say the least if that's the problem.
I know the SOS button is NOT stuck. I have been trying all of this stuff out. It has theoriginal mercedes phone but it's not hooked up but I tried it and it did call but then came back with "thisis not connected to a service - enter credit card info to use it" or something like that. I will see if Autozone can tell.

that means you are not tele-aid subscriber...you must have a tele-aid and it must be activated thru mbusa...then this message will disappear...
Here is my situation (recently bought a 01 430)... I have the same malfunction light. It is from the SOS/Teleaid service, so the dealership said. They also said that error will be there until you subscribe for the service. Screw that.
So I went home and push the button, it dialed the service and they asked what my problem was. So I guess i do have service for that from the previous owner.
I went back to the dealership, they gave me a main number to call at Mercedes. I've yet to call them because I don't want that cancelled, I guess. I'll never use it, but free is always good. haha.
I've read in the forum, that some people have had the error taken off by some dealerships.
Also, if your steering wheel has the controls where you change the menu, volume, ect... you can just push any one of those buttons to get the warning to go away when you start the car.
I do have another malfunction with the lights, the rear fog/parking light, but that malfunction only comes on if i try to turn on the rear fog/parking light. And it says to "check lights" or something of that sort.
As to the dealership removing the teleaid malfuction error, I received that error when I removed the MB GPS receiver. My local dealer said they could not code out the error. However, when I went back another time, I asked again and they were able to turn off the error. Its been fixed ever since.
Note, though, that this was not a "NO PHONE" error, so results could vary.
