Parasitic Battery Drain
I've had this problem diagnosed a few times with no luck. Initially they thought it was the trunk latch, but a replacement didn't fix the problem. Also, the battery has been replaced.. This is a 2002 CLK 320. Any other known problems with make and model? We've tried just about everything and they say the draw on the battery is normal. What's not normal is if I leave the car sit for 4+ days. I'll have a dead car that's easily jumped.

I noticed my trunk light (the green one) flashed even if the trunk is closed, I unplugged it. I noticed too that after about a week of sitting it is "slow" to start but after I unplugged the green flashing light it didnt hapen again, hope that helps

well what readings are they getting when the test is performed? I have never seen a faulty trunk latch cause a drain. usually the culprits are the seat control modules. disconnect them and see after a few days if your battery is still dead.

I had the same problem for weeks last year with my 2000 CLK 430 ... my new battery would go dead after 3 or 4 days of sitting. Couldn't figure it out for the longest. Turns out my problem was caused by a bad phone battery. I had the phone off, but plugged in at the center console, so it kept trying to charge thus draining the car battery.

I have a similar problem. Every few months the car (CLK320-2000) won't start but jumps easily. But, if I let it sit there for a couple of days without trying to jump, it somehow finds enough battery power to start? Additionally, if I do jumpstart it, the BAS and ESP warning lights will flash non-stop while driving. Then, if I stop the car, shut off and restart, the BAS/ESP warning lights are gone. I assume that these warnings come on because of the battery being weak, and go off once the battery gets a better charge from the alternator?? I know that some systems "work" when the key is removed, but I am not sure why it is so infrequent. My hunch (based on forums, etc.) that it has something to do with either: the trunk latch/light, the roll bar, the soft-top (I had the hydraulic pump rebuilt a couple of years ago), the seat modules, or the computer running some kind of diognostics? Problem is, if I take it to my mechanic, nothing seems to be wrong since it is running fine when I get there? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've just noticed a notice in my WIS that might be relevant to your car.
Issued 14/01/2002. Relevant to models 202, 208, 210.
Damage Code: 54 001
Cause: High quiescant current consumption of the front door control units (DCU) on unlocked vehicles not driven for a longer period of time, caused by software malfunction.
1. Do not remove/install/replace units
2. Perform control unit adaption with DAS.

I had this problem occassionally for about a year. Eventually, when replacing the battery the battery guy couldn't figure out where a 300mA drain was going - evrything was off. I read in the handbook that you shouldn't leave the key in the ignition for prolonged periods. Which I did all the time - car parked the garage for anything from a few days to a couple of weeks betwen uses, everything off, but the key in the ignition. No problem since (but then I do have a new battery). It's hard to believe the key was causing a 300mA draw, but certainly that would flatten a battery over a few days.
