What is spark plug torque for year 2000 430CLK Cabriolet ?

What is spark plug torque for year 2000 430CLK Cabriolet ?

Did forums search, and found some ambiguous info.

Spark plugs(All Engines) - 28 N.m
Spark plugs(Engine 113.987/ 990/ 991) - 25 N.m

I'm sure the intent was well founded, but I don't get it, states "all engines", then seems to ID 3 other engines.

Need help clarifying this.
1. So, what is it, 28 or 25 ?
2. What is the numerical ID for my engine, ie. 113.987, or what ?
3. What is the torque setting for my plugs ?

Would really appreciate some help, since I am waiting for a response so that I don't have to walk to work tomorrow.

Thanks.

About the only question I can answer on that is the engine. It's the model, followed by year, engine and chassis. I hope that helps some.

CLK 430 Cabriolet 00-03 113.943 208.470

If I had to guess, I'd guess 28 N.m.

Let me try to follow you here.

You say... it's the model
#1 ...CLK430 Cabriolet

followed by year
#2 ...00-13

engine
#3 ...113.943

amd chassis
#4 ...208.470.

Where would I find a source for the info in items #3, and #4,
verifying that these are the correct numerical desigations for my vehicle.

I'm not familiar with these numbers. I need to find some clear source material regarding the torque values before I twist a steel plug into my alloy heads.

Apparently, from my forum search, other than our discussion, and the ambiguous info in the first posting of this topic, no one on this forum has ever discussed the torque values of spark plugs. No wonder folks keep twisting off plugs in their heads.

Look on any parts supply website and it'll tell you the engine and chassis numbers. Places like autohausaz, thebenzbin, autopartswarehouse and others.

Torque is 25nm to 28nm. I do all mine at 25nm. If you dont have a torque wrench, hand tighten the plug till it hits the seat, then give it a 90deg turn to seat the sealing ring. If you were to check that with a torque wrench, it would be very very close to 28 nm

I just finished the job w/ stock Bosch plugs, torqued at 28Nm,
and used permatex anti sieze on the upper threads of the plugs.

About 6 of the plugs really growled on the way out,
and I had to use a breaker bar on all 16 of them.

Someone has said on another forum, that there is a prob.
w/using anti sieze on aluminum. Have never heard of that.
What's the prob. with anti-sieze and aluminum ?

The first line on the back of the Permatex anti-seize lubricant says, "Use in spark plug installation on aluminum cylinder head-equipped engines."
