help with head unit install

I recently looked at all the threads on this site about installing an aftermarket head unit.. i installed the vw harness and antenna adapter and still the head unit does not turn on. I refered to the wiring diagram on here from an earlier post with what numbers go to what.. i did the exact same 10 times.. and still no power.. now is there something i have to bypass to get power to the head unit? i constantly check my fuse for the radio and its still good. I was told if i had fiber optic in my clk then it would be damn near impossible.. Please help me out.. its nice out i want to finish this asap!

Try looking for the posts that have the wire colors vs. pin matching. Then you can at least make sure the pins are set in the correct configuration.

BTW - people are pretty tolerant in the CLK forum about "to each his own". However, step out of the 208 forum with a name like that and expect to go down in flames.

Did you actually put a voltmeter on the power and ground wires? Its hard to tell from your post. When troubleshooting, I would first want to know if the power is still good.

And don't worry about the fiber optics. It is inconsequential to the install of an aftermarket headunit.

I have never found the remote on wire for my aftermarket. I attached to the lighter but if anyone can find it let me know. The one post about the wires to the amp does not accurately display the remote on wire, It says the blue and white wire but thats not right. I am willing to bet thats the problem, but as ExEngineer said, you need a voltmeter

If you can return that harness, do so and get the Mercedes harness off ebay. I bought one about a month ago and it works perfectly. It is made to fit several different Mercedes. It is direct plug and play.

ok well i fooled around some more with it and this is what happens... i hook up the red to red(positive) and black to black (ground) and the yellow wire ( makes hu turn on and shut off when key is turned) to the yellow ... now, nothing happens but in my other car that i took it out of.. it turns on.. but when i take the yellow wire off and touch it to the red wire (direct positive) it will come on... and i tried every connection on that plug by touching the yellow wire to every other terminal with the red and black hooked up.. the red and black are correct due to the thickness and color.. so my problem is attatching the yellow wire .. with out the yelow wire connected the HU will not come on.. there is nothing to connect it to!!!!... but when i hook up my stock head unit, all is good...

HELP ME!!!

Did the wire colors change between years?

Pink w/Green: Switched Power
Red: Constant Power
Brown: Ground
Gray w/Blue: Headlight Dimmer
Blue w/White: Remote

by touching the yellow wire to every other terminal
Lowrinlife, DUDE!, what are you doing?! ^^^ That's just crazy.

First: Buy a voltmeter.
Second: Read the pinout posts here:
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208...?highlight=pin
Third: Find the pinout description in your Headunit manual and connect everything properly without experimenting.
