SRS warning light

I see a few old posts on this, but no real resolution. I've got the SRS light on following the advice from the boards, I checked all the connectors under the seats. Everything looked hunky-doory there, so I gave up and took it to my local rapist,

As expected, they told me the car would have to be completely disassembled and put back together. Not really, but they want $2k for the passenger airbag module to be replaced.

I work for a tier 1 automotive supplier, and we deal with airbags. Even for domestic cars, this is one of the most quality-controlled parts on the entire car...and it has no moving parts. I find it hard to believe that it would just fail for no reason. My guess (from reading posts) is that it is the passenger sensor in the seat. Does this sound reasonable? Does anyone have a part number/approximate cost for the part?

SRS problems on a 2001

have you checked with the NTSB to see if there are any other complaints, I think this would be a safety issue on a 2001 that MBUSA should fix under a service campaign.

That is where I would start before I pay any $$ to the dealer.

This SRS light problems happen to me : for sure when you snap the seat belt buckle, make sure it snap in GOOD (I guess that my old car 95/94 MB, the buckle sensor is old, when snap the buckle in, it really DOES NOT go all the way), the SRS light come on & off while I am driving, when I get home, spray a little bit of WD40 to the buckle holder, the SRS light do not show, when I snap, the buckle go in the holder smoothly. Try the easy fix first to see what happen, before you put in a lot $ for the dealer to fix.

get an indy star diagnosis

My local MB specialist did this (for £40) fault was "high resistance wire between passenger door airbag and squib" This was a stored fault and the light went out on clearing it, 2 weeks later wife opens door, on it comes. Now thinking about stripping door down to see if any wires look damaged in hinge area. Trouble is wires have to have the correct resistance for that damn brain to be happy.

Had the same problem with my 2001 CLK 430. Problem was a bad switch in my seatbelt buckle. Got it replaced, never had that problem again.

The light comes on as soon as the car is started. Could that still be a seatbelt switch issue?

They pressure you into paying the $$ to fix it, because they say if there is any fault, the aribags will not deploy in an accident...which is probably true.

weird problem ...

mine stays on , but dimly....turn on the car - and its gone.... another symptom was that my horn just stayed on and lights were flashing ...wtff can this be..the flashing stops when i unlock or lock the door...but then horn only goes off when i put the key in and turn it once...remove it and it starts again...after just doing it a couple times it finally stopped but the SRS light is still dimly lit when the car is off....

any ideas?
