Fuel Filter Location

Hello, I have a 2000 clk 430 and I can't find the location of the fuel filter. I found a couple of posts on here that are kind of vague. It says its under the car on the right side near the rear tire. I just spent 15 minutes trying to look under my car but I didn't see anything. Can anyone please describe the location in more detail or maybe a picture? Also, can I access it and replace the filter without having to lift up the car?

I think, but I'm not positive that you have to take the, uh, wheelwell cover (I can't remember the right word) off on the drivers side rear wheel to get to it. I'm sure that didn't make sense. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for your help guys but unfortunately you confused me even more. The other posts that I saw said that it was on the passanger side (right). I'm pretty sure it's not under the wheel well, that wouldn't make any sense, there is no way they'd put fuel lines in the wheel well. As far a plastic cover, is it just a snap on or is it secured by a screw? I found what looks like a small plastic cover on the LEFT side, right at the edge of where the wheel well starts and it's secured by a nut. Is that it? Has anyone here actually replaced one or have seen it done?

Smile Fuel Filter Location

The fuel filter is located (if the vehicle hoisted) near the rear axle in the middle. It silver and resembles a can os "Coors" beer can. Hope that helps.

Hmm, every response is different. Left side , right side, inside wheel well and now in the middle. lol Why can't it just be under the hood like in all the normal cars. Mercedes has to make everything difficult. I guess I'll keep looking.

Does anyone have a pic of the fuel filter location under the hood? Or can you try to describe it in some detail?

Thanks.

"under the hood"? If the CLK has a filter under the hood, I can't find it in the WIS, or in the STAR Classic DVD, and I can't find a part number for it. I've changed the one "under" the car several times. The red arrow in the photo points to a silver can with a plastic cover underneath it. That can is the filter, and that's what I've changed.

Rear of the car, to the right of the diff, you can't miss it.

Marcus as usual has cleared up your confusion. A suggestion when changing, mark the lines so you don't confuse them when changing. You will need new hose clamps (originals rarely hold after removing).
