I've read in a couple posts that the CLK55 air intake is a nice upgrade to the stock system. Can anyone tell me what is required and where the best place is to get the parts?

Well, I have a clk430 and installed the stock size K&N filters
and works great..........
Yes, its true...........the AMG system will not work with CLK320
if you are living in california, any air intake system MUST have a CARB sticker on it to prove its an approved system or risk of a big fat ticket plus a trip to smog stations for inspections.
Its a pain to modify rides now in california, many other states are adopting this law..........
I have a clk430, and I was thinking about removing the OEM air filter from the air box to attached two cone filters... Will this work, or should i just go with the K&N filter and forget about that idea???
K&N filter = $45.00 x 2 = ~$90.00
or
Aftermarket cone filter for $20.00 x 2 = $40.00 hummmmm. ??????
FYI: works and sound great on honda, but I'm not too sure on MB..

I asked a shop owner about this when i was getting my other car's muffler changed. He strongly recommended not screwing with any of it, other than the K&N upgrade. Even then, he said it could be risky with the MAF. As he put it...
"They don't really skimp on those cars with the design. It ain't broke, so dont take the chance to make it broke with rice tech".

They aren't supposed to reccommend any aftermarket parts.
The stock style K&N filters are a great upgrade for the 430.
They also say that the biggest you can go for wheels on a clk is 18" with possible modification. This is obviously not true.
This was a shop that does nothing but the coffee can exhaust and CAI on hondas, nissan and such. I could tell it was just clearly respect for the car. Maybe he didn't know the car that well and how far it can be pushed.
Myself, I've seen enough inconclusive evidence that I'll stick with OEM. I don't see the supposed gain as worth the possibility of having an issue.

It's been reported that leaving too much oil on the K&N cone can damage the MAF, and "too much" is a very relative term. I'd still like to try it...We'll see.

The factory intake, with or with out K&N filters, would be better than the one shown on your ebay link or even those twin cone set-ups that are available. Reason being, the factory design does not suck in all the underhood heat (destroying power) that the other half-assed designs do. Try to find a true cold air set up if possible, or just get a high flow filter. Some of those aftermarket intakes look neat and sound throaty, but MB engineers spent alot of time making those intakes the way they are for a reason.
