Can anyone tell me how to remove the ecu in my clk please. I need to know location and tools that I will need to do the job.
It's very easy. You just need a philips screwdriver. Up in the passenger side corner of the engine bay (on american cars) nearest the window you'll see a black cover with 4 screws on them. Take those off and pull the cover off. Then you'll see the ECU and I think the ABS unit. Pop off and slide off all of the wire units nearest the window (maybe 6 of them) and also on the unit next to it (two big slide pieces and a little wire piece). Then make sure on the right side of the ecu you get another screw that's in there. You'll probably have to manuever the wires around to see it and get to it. Then pull the whole unit out. The bigger part is the ECU. Use a star drive to undo two more screws and there you go.
I know it was kind of a crappy description but I hope it was enough to get you going.
also ASSIF, on the larger wire plugs the "keepers" that lock the plug to the ECU or the ABS have releases on top and when released they rotate left to right and right to left from the top down. The smaller rectangular plugs have a slide release that moves from right to left or left to right moving up (depending on which side its on). Hope that makes sense.
JT, DL or anyone else that's removed their ECU...I need some assistance: I can't get the three rectangular plugs closest to the firewall/passenger compartment out (the ones with the grey plastic locks). I've slipped off the grey "locks" and tried pulling directly up but they're not coming out with even with decent pressure. Is there a trick to getting them out once the lock is disengaged? I'll try to post a pic of what I'm talking about. TIA guys.
Here are the pics. First one is a close up of one of the connectors with the lock undone and one with it still on. Second one is of the ECU compartment. Third one has the three plugs circled that I can't get out.
Ok, it's really easy. I did a crappy numbering on the pic, but basically take out that middle one, labeled #1. Then you should be able to go in order. Basically you push the gray bar down and the piece pops out. If you need more help, PM me your number and I'll give you a call tonight if I get it by a reasonable time (remember I am 2 hours ahead).
Edit: I actually just noticed you didn't pull out the two on the left hand side either. Start by pulling those first. Then go to number 1 in the picture.

Hey JT, you are the man...I didn't realize that one in the middle (#1) came out. Once that's out everything else pops out. Sometimes things are ridiculously obvious in retrospect. I feel a little like Phil Mickleson now...
So is the ECU the part directly below these connectors or the part below the 2 big and one small connectors in front of them, or both? How many torx screws are there holding the ECU in? Did you just use a rachet to get the torx down in there? Thanks again man.
Actually, once you have off all of those connections there is a little screw on the right hand side underneath all of those wires. Take that out and both of those parts just pull straight out. Then there are two torx holding the bigger part (the one with 6 connections on it) on. Take that off and then you'll have your ecu ready to ship.

Help appreciated but Assif is asking how to remove the ECU without knowing where it is but you keep making references to the ECU which Assif does not know where it is or what it looks like. Is like giving directions using the final destination as the reference point instead of the starting point. Works with reverse engineering if you know what you are doing.
So when I put this that says in the corner of the engine bay and even explain that's only for american cars and describe the black cover with the screws that does NOT describe where it is???????? Tell me you didn't look in the engine bay and pretty much know exactly what you were looking for after that.
