So I called a local transmission place. They quoted me a drain, flush and fill as well as new filter and gasket for $140. That was using the Valvoline synthetic blend fluid. Anyway, so I had some reservations about it but made the appointment. Anyway, I took it in and they did it all but told me beforehand that they knew they should do it with the MB filter and fluid so that's what they used. They still only charged me the $140. My local dealer is charging $18 per quart so I'm feeling good about the whole situation. I brought in the directions from TresX on the other forum just in case they weren't sure about the torque convertor. Anyway...that's about the cheapest you're going to find a transmission flush using MB stuff.
On a side note they did say my fluid was kind of brown and definitely should be changed. I'm almost at 95K miles and probably should have done it awhile ago but I only bought the car about a year ago with about 88K miles on it.
So is your transmision running smoother or what? Jeez! [:D]
Nope, no difference. I know you know this, but I had it checked because I was feeling it downshift to first when slowing down for a stop sign. It's not much of anything and most people probably wouldn't notice it. I don't think that's normal but they said it wasn't a big deal and "it happens". So I'm just going to go with it and keep on ridin'. [8D]
I just turned 60K and am thinking of changing the trans fluid... any dangers in getting it done so early. i assume not, but need some expert opinion
thanks
I've asked this many times. There really isn't an expert opinion. Mercedes did go with the "it's a lifetime fluid" thing but lately they've backed off it. My opinion would be if you think you need to do it then do it. There's always a danger of opening the case and therefore actually allowing more contaminents in the system but in reality it probably isn't going to hurt to change it. I say though that once you change it, keep changing it on a normal, regular basis. Don't wait longer than you would with a normal car.
Interesting. I was reading over on the other site and a thread just happened to pop up from awhile ago on the exact same thing....the transmission shifting hard into first when decelerating. A couple of the guys said it was the MAF and replacing it would fix the problem. I haven't replaced it since I've had it and I really doubt it's been changed in a long time. My problem isn't bad yet so I'll keep this in mind. If it does get any worse though I'm definitely going to change my MAF and see what happens.

$140 is very cheap compared to my dealer charges me $450 for tranny and rear diff flush. I was going to let the non Mercedes shop do it for haft price but when i found out that the tranny require re-adaptation after you change the fluid. So i decided to pay the dealer and do it the right way, after all, it a CL 55 w'HPS sc'ed. Don't want to mess up the performance.
Your problem of shifting hard into first when deceleration got to have something to do with re-adaptation. Think about it, the mas have nothing to do with it. It was fine first before you change the fluid, right?
No, it was the shift into first that prompted me to do the transmission fluid in the first place. That and the fact that I'm coming up on 100K miles. I've never heard of the re-adaptation. It seems to be fine since I've gotten it back though. Check that....it still has the shift into first but it drives just fine otherwise. I'm not sure why the maf would affect it either. I'm just going by what I read on the other site.
