Obviously nice cars but I just don't like the butt on them. Almost looks like an older Infiniti (I think) but I don't remember which model. Anyway...I like the high sharp lines on the trunk and that car just has a "saggy" look to it.
Dude, you live in a place called "Normal", and the people there don't appreciate an extraordinary car....now THERE's a surprise. If you lived in Outstanding, WI, then you'd have something to gripe about....
What is it about the 2000s that makes them look like a newer car? I've had mechanics look surprised when I tell them mine is a 2000. It must be because it's a timeless design, and it probably helps that mine is "as new" - in almost perfect condition.
Actually, on the down side, my wife's ex is always after reasons for not paying child support, and having me drive around in a CLK seems to get up his ass - ignoring the fact that it cost me less than a new Jetta...but he still gets to bitch because I'm driving a "Mercedes convertible". Mind you, it's nice that people have something to bitch about, keeps them off the streets at night.

That cracked me up. That is pretty much true though.

I get that all the time from my co-workers and everyone else I meet. Everytime I meet someone who doesn't happen to know what I drive and I explain what my car is I get the same line everytime. "Well you must be getting paid pretty well at Illinois State University!!!" Uh no. I work for the state. That means I get great benefits like 26 days of vacation a year plus 12 days of sick (compared to the norm in town which is 2 weeks of vac.) but it also means that for the field I'm in I'm underpaid. I'm not complaining about what I make because it pays the bills but everyone thinks now that I'm rich or something and unfortunately I'm far from that. I just look at it like I bought a car for under $18K a year ago. Not that I bought a Mercedes so therefore I'm wealthy.

That's a hoot - I too am a university employee, and of course underpaid etc - I'm faculty, but I've still got the crummiest car in the faculty parking lot (the Center Director is looking at a Bentley, and one of my older colleagues has an Aston Martin).
Wife's Ex's new wife (???) sarcastically said to me "Gee, I wish I was in research so I could have a car like that...." - I just agreed, instead of pointing out that she could have bought two of them for the money she paid for her Sequoia....some people are a bit clueless.

I couldn't agree more. No one seems to understand that point. They just see a name. Do a little research and people would be surprised. I just don't have the time or patience to explain it to them, ha ha. Instead I'll actually be happy that no one understands this because then there'll be less people that don't know anything driving our cars thus leaving it to us enthusiasts.

Last year i drove my car up to Kokomo, IN. and noticed that everytime a Chrysler PT Cruiser would pass by the kids would say "PIIIMMMP" and the would get all happy and say that if they had dat car, they would get all the Bitches! HAHAHAHA! Then i was pumping gas at a gas station and some guy asked if my car was a toyota or the new nissan 350zx. man i was pissed
It is amazing to me that you guys are getting those reactions. Today on my lunch break in La Jolla I saw 4 different silver 208 cabs not counting my own, in addition to an S65. Benzes are so common here no one even looks anymore.

Oh sure. Start tooting your own horn since you live in sunny San Diego. You try moving to central Illinois in the middle of corn and see how many you see around here. [V]
Righto Mr Smartypants - never mind La Freakin Jolla, I live round the corner from the home of the Tiger Woods Classic, and those Golf Course View bozos have more Mercs than my bro sees in Stuttgart.
Every day there's S65s, SL65s, pimped, not pimped, AMGed, Lorinsered, Brabussed etc cruisin by. We've got a few Maybachs, I've seen an SLR (dunno if it lives there or not). They won't let you in the gate if you only have a C.
And yet I still get the Blank Stare from the knobs around the place (no doubt including some Merc "owners" - bet you a goodly amount most of them know that it's a black sedan, but not the make of the car they're driving - half of them aren't driving it themselves anyway!), and the stupid comments about how much my 66k miles 2000 CLK 'must have cost'.
Who lives in cornfields? There's more Merc Yokels here than corn cronies in Normal....
