Motor mounts visual diagnosis?

My question: do motor or tranny mounts always have visual symptoms when they go bad? In other words, can they look OK but be bad without looking like it?

I know from cruising the forum that a few of you guys have replaced your motor mounts on your CLKs for rough idle. When you replaced them, did they exhibit any damage or did they look fine even though they were causing the rough idle? Can the mounts look OK even when bad/damaged?

I just took my 430 to the stealership and they said the mounts look fine. No leaking or clearance issues. I've still got a rough idle and I've changed plugs, filters (air and fuel), MAF, cleaned injectors, and run top end cleaner but a slight rough idle is still there. 46K on the clock.

Any help appreciated.
