Class II hitch on CLK Cab or trunk mounted bike carrier?

I am looking to add a Class II (1 1/4" ) receiver hitch to my CLK 55 Cab to be able to carry bikes. I am reluctant to go to a trunk mounted bike carrier, since it tends to damage the paint etc.

1. Has anybody used a trunk mounted carrier with success?

2. Which model hitch is recommended?

3. Can they be mounted without extra drilling or battery removal? I am not thinking about tapping into wiring for this application.

Thanks for sharing your collective wisdom.

RE: Class II hitch on CLK Cab or trunk mounted bike carrier?

I had one custom fitted by a local hitch installer. I used it to pull a jet ski in '03 for about a year without a problem. Looks clean overall. I'll post some pics by tomorrow. Think I paid about $200.

To answer the wiring question, there's nothing to wiring the lights. They're just tapped into the brake and running lights. The install was very clean, all the metal was cut and bent from scratch, fitted to show the least exposure. I haven't used the hitch in about 1 1/2 yrs, but I'll leave it there since it isn't really noticeable. [;)]
