I'm a newby.......my husband is recovering from cancer treatments, and in his zest for life, he purchased for me a truly beautiful 2001 CLK430 convertible.
I love most things about this car, but am deeply troubled now with the horrid operation of the convertible top. I've had it checked for fluid - all is fine - and am being advised that I probably need a new pump(?). The car had 19K miles in May and now has about 23K. I've had the top down every possible nice day, but about a month ago, it began sounding strained, and then it began moving ever so slowly. Now it will just hang up when it is almost closed...I have to turn off the engine, restart and it struggles to get back down.
Anyone have experience with this trouble...and what is it going to cost me?
Thanks much!
Nicki
unfortunately not. The mileage was low, but when he bought the car, we had only about 20 days left under the age factor. I managed to get some minor work done (squeaky windows and frame), but, of course, the top was operating well at that time.
Thanks for your thoughts on Tom. I am happy to say he has responded well and we are looking forward to adding many more years to ones we've racked up already!
I am looking forward to talking to others with the same type car......isn't the internet great?
I bought a cabriolet this summer, and am enjoying it every time I drive her.
I did manage to mess up the top operation the first week I had her. It seemed to work fine after I restarted the car. I must admit I find it anoying that you can't run it up or down, unless you are standing still. Not that I would "drive" and operate it, just creep down my driveway...really slow.
Classy looking! :)
I've talked to the fellow from whom we bought the car - he's the best. He'll take it to the nearest dealer (1 hr away) and give me something nice to use while it is being inspected. Hopefully, this will not cost me my first-born - - - - my dealer said we'd work something out if it turns out to be a major expense.
I do love this car - and it certainly does turn heads, doesn't it? I've had men, women and children comment on it - - :)
Mine is white/gray interior/black top - - sharp.
