OBD Codes?

My check engine light has been coming on intermittently, I took it by auto zone and had the codes checked they were P0173, P0170, P0161, P0156. I think it is the MAF but not real sure. It is a 99 with 60,000 miles on it. It has also started makeing a tapping noise at start up, almost sounds like a quiet diesel for a couple minutes then goes away. Any thoughts.

RE: OBD Codes?

P0156 - O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
P0161 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
P0170 - Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1) check vaccum leaks first or
P0173 - Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2)

Does the car still have the original seven year old O2 sensors?

RE: OBD Codes?

I bought the car in December so I would have to assume so.

RE: OBD Codes?

Hey JB,

I would check the Pre-post O2 sensor first. I think that is one of the problems of going to Auto zone for code reading because their reader might not be able to give you a specific id location for the 02 sensor- eg. pre cat/bank 1/sensor 1, etc. If you are in the Wash metro area i might be able to help you out if you are going to DYI. I have a Snap-On Modis scanner that will give you alot of dealer-specific info...

RE: OBD Codes?

Ed, Thanks for the offer but I live in LA, by that I mean Lower Alabama. I think I will start with the O2 sensor, then move on from there. It hesitates on acceleration as well so I might just change the MAF as well. Thanks

RE: OBD Codes?

I think only pre 2000 models came with the chrome trimming. IMO I like the blacked out window trim on the new models..
