I just bought my car and I need some advice. I want to know what is the best way to lower my car and keep as close to a stock ride as possible. I just put 19's on it, and now it needs to be dropped. Any advice?
I also have a CLK55 and my advice would be to go with H&R springs and 17mm spring spacers all the way around. I've experimented with 9mm, 13mm, and 17 mm. Too make a long story short, if you don't put the 17mm's all the way around, you'll most likely find yourself rubbing in hard turns. That's been my experience at least. Also, you want to buy eccentric camber bolts for the front and a camber kit for the back since there will be quite a bit of negative camber. If you're interested, I have a rear camber kit from Renntech. The kit consisted of four camber bolts for the rear and only 2 needed to be used. Needless to say, I have 2 extra camber bolts that I can't use. The kit from Renntech costs $500 so if your interested, I'll cut you a pretty good deal.
What year is your CLK55. Is it stock height for a 55, or has it been dropped too. It would be great to know the difference between a CLK430 not dropped, and the factory CLK55.
A simple measurement under the side of the car ground effects would be great. To make it easy for me to compare to my CLK55, which I think is still stock, please measure directly under the line made by the door meeting the body gap, on the end of the door where the handle is.
Sorry it took so long to respond... My car measures 12-7/8" to the top of the rubber, on the bottom at the rear of the drivers door. And my car hasn't been lowered, bone stock right down to the purse scratches on the roof from the previous owner. I do have 19's though, 245/35 front & 275/30 rear.
