Looking to buy a new E55 and trade an 02 CLK55

Hi All,

I posted this question on the E55 section but got no replies, so I hope you guys can help.

I'm new to this site. I've reading the forum but never posted anything.

I currently own an 02 CLK55 and I am thinking on buying a new 06 E55.

My big dilema is the performance difference between the CLK and the E. I attended the AMG Challenge this past April and I drove the E55K and the CLS55K but I'm not sure if the performance difference between my car and these 2 is significant.

I own my car and I would be trading it for a 39 month lease for the E55K.

The other thing is that the new '07 E63 might be coming in next summer. Maybe the wait list is going to be to long and I'll have to wait at least 2 more years.

Anyone that has owned both that can give me some advice?

Thanks,
Karl.-

So they drive that similar ?? I have only had my 2002 CLK55 AMG Cabriolet (heavier than a coupe) for a few months. While I love the car, I may need to move to a sedan with more rear seat leg room. I was also looking into the E55. I thought an extra 120 or so hp, would be easy to feel. If not, is this because the sedan is that much heavier??

I believe they are very similar because of their torque characteristics. The E55 is heavier but by looking at the perf numbers you know that the E55 will be faster. I just want to see if there is anyone out there that has owned a 208 CLK55 and then went to a E55K.

Sounds like good advice to seek. I too, shall watch your thread, since I am curious too. I have taken a few 200 mile trips with my 12 year old son, and his friend (one rides in the back). The CLK55 is a fun car for sure, but that lack of leg room in the back seat is becoming an issue.

Of course, I could just rent a mini van for the trips, and keep my fun car. LOL

Best wishes on your search.

If you guys think an E55 performance is similar to a CLK55 then give me some of what you're smokin. The E55 has a supercharger on top of that 5.4L engine. You're telling me you wont feel a difference with a supercharger? Come on now. The E55 is easily modded as well becuase of the blower. Stock E55 runs 1/4 in low 12's at best, usually around 12.4-12.6. CLK55 probably does it in low 13's (never seen one at the track). There is a heavily modded 03 E55 with 600hp+ for sale if you want a fast E55.[:D]

I was considering the same thing. I ve been doing my research for the past 6 months on what my next move was going to be. Finally , after a trip to europe , I got a chance to drive the NEW M5 and THE Quattroporte . I love the M5. I was set on the e55 for a minute but the M5 is way more driver involving and Fomula one inspired then the e55.
So, I sold my CLk last week and I will be waiting on the M5 to come out.[:)]

Welcome. Different dynamics. Straightline speed is better However I had an E class before and is was way too long for cornering hard compared to my CLK especially in London.

The suspension can easily be fixed by changing shocks and springs, sway bar, etc.

I don't see how you are going to be able to buy a new M5, the wait list must be very very long. I can image how nice the M5 drives, but I think that for the daily drivers the high torque and fast accelaration times for 30-50 or 50-80 miles/hr the E55K can't be beaten.

In your trip to Europe did you just go to a BMW dealership and ask for an M5 test drive?

What is the estimated delivery date for new M5?
