Thinking about changing my shock to improve my bouncy/hopping/uncomfortable ride and wondering which I should get. Is there a differce between the two? I have H&R on 00' CLK430. Also do I need alignment after the shocks are changed cuz I just had it aligned not too long ago.
I don't know whether they are actually better than bilsteins or not, bc I haven't ever used Bilsteins, so I can't compare. I know I like them on my car though... I can tell a difference when you adjust them... and the ride is still pretty smooth considering how low it is now... it takes bumps very well.
I just bought Bilstein (heavy duty) which are original replacement for my CLK 430 Cab at autozone.com for $79.00 ea. Comes with the new bolts and bushings (no need to buy these at the dealer-have to return two of these kits-$15.00 ea-that the dealer said I'd need whether or not I purchased their $180.00+ Bilsteins ($180.00 each!). Cost me $30.00 total to install my shocks at Pep Boys... Now rides smooth again... no bounce, no front end dip when coming to a quick stop, no steering jerk. I changed the steering damper myself a week before ($50.00 part from dealer). Dealer quoted me $800.00-900.00 to replace front shocks---my cost $200.00!!! priceless
