Welcome to Benzworld.
If you're looking for someone to talk you out of it....I think you're in the wrong place.[;)]
It's a great, reasonably priced, car with no outstanding issues that I am aware of. Oh sure, repairs are costly but that's the nature of the beast. Do a search around this site there are plenty of questions such as yours that have been addressed. If you're downsizing to a 430 V8.......You must be driving an Abrahms tank.

Yeah but I'm not aware of any serious electrical issues. It's usually a blown fuse and we all freak out and take it to the dealer and spend $200 to find out it was a blown fuse or something innocuous like that.[:(!]

Well my driver seat is already fubar. It works from the buttons but doesn't move forward when you fold the seat foreward. My lamp failure light still comes on, I still haven't resolved the BAS/ABS problem and my tranny is posessed by a demon sometimes...........Hey Famous.....Get a Lexus man, this thing is nothing but trouble! [:D]

RE: Newbie, buying a 99 CLK430, talk me out of it.

i test drove one and the headrest and the back of the seat didn't work. it would scoot forward and backward, but nothing else. it was low miles too, only 43k. thanks alot for listing the negatives. keep em coming.

i am downsizing, from a 04 navigator. it's a tank and gas mileage is horrible.

hmm... what should i offer for a stock 99 clk with 43k with sport package? what did you all get yours for? can you post some pictures of your cars? thanks again

Welcome to the site[:)]Downsize to save money? There is all the information on this site and on this particular forum. If you any specific questions just post it.

I have a 2001 430, I found the standard car to be floaty and changed the suspension to Carlsson but this personal preference. Reliablity is generally good but it depends on how hard you drive. The harder you drive potentially the more problems.
