change from 430 to 55 intake

Here was my birthday present to myself. I bought this from Josh (in immaculate condition by the way) and threw it on today. Went over to Str8ridin's house and then we took them cruisin' since he has the AMG intake as well. He used to pull away from me once we got going, but today we took them out, got a running start at around 40 and stayed basically even (maybe a foot difference) through a speed much faster than allowed. [:D] I really don't notice a huge difference just riding around but obviously it's made a difference since I now keep up with him. Thanks again Josh.

Oh, one more thing. It just looks SOOOOO much better too in my opinion.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think the consesus around these forums is something like 10-15 extra horses. Any else want to jump in on this?

In conjunction with the K&N filters I went from a stock rear wheel dyno of 215 to 235

People that has it dyno.....showed no gain !!!!!!! I try swap my CL 55 to the Clk 430 and it make no difference.
Oh really? Please post your dyno sheets to back up this statement. Are you going by the "butt dyno" or are you taking your car to an actual Dynojet for a before and after pull? Because mine showed 20 rear wheel horses with no other mods, and everyone that I've spoken to that's changed their 430 intake to a CLK55 one has seen the same gains on a dyno.

Stock rear wheel HP was right around 215, here's my dyno after the airbox:

I can't post numbers or talk anything technical about how much improvement there was, but like I said....before I couldn't keep up with his car and after we ran head to head. My "buttdyno" didn't do much for me but the results were obvious. No matter what, I'm happy with it so that's good enough for me.

Yep, the Renntech box is the one that made no power.

K&N filters are always good for a couple of HP (provided that you don't ruin the MAF by over oiling them)

As for the a/f, that's what it ran stock (which actually isn't lean at all for a n/a motor). I'm going to try and find my first dyno, but from the factory with no mods, the a/f was the same.

This spike in the dyno is actually the variable runner length intake manifold switching over from the short runners to the long runners. It's normal on our motors.

RE: change from 430 to 55 intake

No, I haven't felt the spike at all. One question - is SoCalCLK running any software? Because that gets rid of it, though not necessarily for the better. The S55 that's at HoP right now getting the Type C-1 kit installed came in with Powerchip software and the spike wasn't there. Josh had him reflash it to stock and the spike came back (along with 8hp and 16 ft./lbs of torque that were lost with the Powerchip software).

I'm quite surprised you haven't seen this spike - I've seen it on base dynos for just about every Mercedes with a similar manifold - even under pressure (like with the HoP supercharger), the spike is there, as it's blowing through the same manifold.

If you look closely at the graph, you'll see that the spike actually appears to help the curve the torque spikes right as the horsepower begins to take over.
