Correct tire pressure

Ok, someone here more knowledgable than me help me out. I went and checked the tire pressure today. Usually I go by max pressure on the tire. Mine say something like max load whatever @ 51 psi. I just thought that sounded a little too high so I put the pressure at 44 psi. It seems to be a little much as my car definitely is "stiffer" than before. So I ask you guys....what would you put the pressure at? I think I have 225/45/17's all the way around. Of course I checked around noon today and then went and drank all day so I might be wrong. I know the vehicle says 32 or 33 or something but then again that's for different size tires. Anyway, what would you put at it?

RE: Correct tire pressure

Good article but it still doesn't exactly answer my question. I guess I'll just go by what the car says (32 in front and 33 in rear) and forget about what the tires say. I'm just saying that different tires seem to need different pressures. Just my general observation but not based on any real studies. Anyone have a better explanation on why you should or shouldn't adjust for different size aftermarket performance tires? I mean for everyone out there with 18's or 19's.....you're all running around the 32 or 33 pressure?

RE: Correct tire pressure

I have 19's with the basic tire size pkge(Front 235/35; Rear 265/30). I have the fronts at 34 and the rears at 36. No comlpaints and my ride is just fine. I believe it also matters whether you have OEM spring/shocks vs after-market. The feel will be different. Remember to always chk pressure when tire is cold. Hope this helps.

RE: Correct tire pressure

No matter what size you go up or down, keep the recommended pressure for the CLK in all the tires. Unless you are going to the track, then play with the pressure, otherwise keep it this same. tirerack.com 1-800# reps will verify this..

RE: Correct tire pressure

41 psi will get you inner (middle) tire wear. And that is cold tire pressure....it will increase when you drive.

Huh? Wha? I don't follow you. Recomended pressure (panel on door) is 32 front 33 rear, but thats for factory 16's. I've got 19" low profile Hankook's that say 51 max (I know JTbeche had the same prob).
