So I got my car tinted yesterday at an all-in-one shop and I couldn't help but notice that they sold and installed aftermarket head units. Therefore, I asked the guy if they knew how to rid the C of the video limiter and he immediately called this company called NAV-TV NAV-TV. According to them, the fix is about 3 weeks out and will cost around +/- $700. As for having it installed, the shop said $300. So thats a fix for $1K. Pretty steep. Do you think that its worth it?

Im pretty sure that you can already get it... only because Ive seen a new C class with the DVD working while moving with my own eyes:

My Dealer sent me to these guys Mid City Engineering because my ML500 had everything but a backup camera and nobody else even said it could be installed. So I go there and its like a total electronics lab in this little building: they had every kind of mercedes model and they were designing and building all these amazing devices.

So while im getting the camera done I ask the guy if they can do a backup camera for the new C class because i have one ordered for my wife. He smiles and says "come with me" and brings me over to a brand new C350 with the multimedia package. The radio had a little black box hooked up to it that sat just behind it and when they guy pushed a button on the steering wheel the instrument cluster said "video on" and the dvd played while he drove the car around. I guess they design and build these devices in house and they were really knowledgeable. Needless to say i have one of the modules waiting for me when my car gets delivered next month.

Anyway this was like a month ago and he told me that car was the first but they were developing a kit as well. The price the guy gave me was like $499 plus 1 hour of installation so the $1000 price seems a bit high.

Oh, one more thing i forgot... I asked about getting the backup camera and he showed me the back of the radio and it had a bunch of extra plugs on it. He said that the C class radio is actually better than all the other mercedes model radios and that not only can it have a backup camera added but video and tv tuner in as well. I was pretty excited and wanted to know more but he wouldn't elaborate on the specifics other than to say that they would have some really cool stuff available for the C in the coming months.

There's one thing that worries me about this - MB voiding the warranty on the nav system. Manufacturers are getting really crabby about these kinds of things and using such modifications as excuses not to cover the system when it fails. I can't speak for MBUSA, but BMW is just an a-hole about things like this. BMW even puts a sticker in the upper left side of the windshield saying that part modification voids the part's warranty.

TVandNav2go modified our Jeep's nav system for a backup camera (also has an extra video input for DVD). They did an excellent job. I remember when I took the Jeep into the dealer to repair a suspension noise. I rode with the service manager. When he put it in reverse and saw the backup video on the screen, he just said, "I didn't see that."
